To a Tantrika, his or her guru's position is supreme, even more then God for the Guru
is the door opener to God. This is said in the scriptures. The Guru is more near and dear
to a Tantrika than Goddess Herself. God/Goddess has many things to deal with, but Guru is
concerned only with your welfare. The Guru's position is more helpful to the disciple than
God. If within your society, you want a natural growth of the disciple's regard for the
guru and the Absolute, Truth, such room must be allowed in your constitution, if the
constitution is to live at all.

A Guru is one who can inspire you by his or her speeches, and if she or he is able to
clear your doubts, if he or she is free, who is sympathetic in your sadhana. A Guru who
does not disturb your beliefs but help you on from where you are, in who's very presence
you feel spiritually elevated, that person is your Guru. Once you choose your guru,
implicitly follow your chosen Guru. God will guide you through the Guru.
Do not use your reason too much in selection of your Guru. You will fail if you do so. If
you fail to get a guru, try following the instructions of a sadhu (a spiritual person) who
is treading the path for some years.
If you do not have a guru you can keep a photo of a realized guru, worship with faith and
devotion. Gradually you will get inspiration, and your guru will appear in your dream and
initiate and inspire you at the proper time.
For a sincere sadhaka (aspirant), help will come in a mysterious manner. When the time is
ripe, the lord brings the guru and the disciple together in a mysterious way. It is up to
you to receive the teachings and be devoted to the guru and the teachings.
Note of warning to those in the west, once you receive a mantra from a guru, it is a life
commitment, and if you are not serious and single minded towards your growth, do not reach
out for a guru, that person remains you guru for life.
I have know many who go around receiving mantras from many gurus and then go on leaving a
life without following their guidance or having any devotion towards the them, they will
have to come back to learn devotion again, and in this live, they will live a life without
devotion from either family or friends.
In the west many like the guru to be pleasing them, rather then helping them remove their
weakness.
"If you get a Guru who will punish you for your wrongs, you are the luckiest man,
because he takes upon himself the responsibility of improving and making you a dynamic
personality by eradicating all your vices. Take it as a special grace of the Lord. If you
get a kind and merciful guide then great responsibility lies with you for your
improvement. He will only hint the right thing. He will show by actions." By Swami
Sivananda
The sun can give heat and light to the whole world, but he cannot do so when the cloud
shut out his rays. Similarly as long as egotism veils the heart, God cannot shine upon it,
leave alone a Guru.
Egotism is like a cloud, which keeps Guru and God hidden from our sight. If it vanishes by
the mercy of the Guru, God is perceived in all Her glory.
Srila Rupa Goswami says that vaidhi-bhakti, devotion under the guidance of Săstra, or
laws that rules, is helpful only to a certain extent. It will help the inner awakening of
live and affection and then retire. Law will retire, giving room to the spontaneous flow
of law. Law is necessary especially in the lower stages, but should make room for free
movement in the relationship.
Do Japa, Worship and meditate and Maya can never, never approach you. You will have ever
the grace of the Divine Mother of creation. All the veils will be torn
Just as the river flows continuously towards the sea, thoughts of your Guru and the divine
Mother should continuously flow.
Repeat mantras that your received form your guru so when you're past karmas come they will
not overpower you. Events take place in life according to parabdha karma, the karma
brought with us into this life. But, these do not affect the soul unless by mere habit or
ignorance one identifies oneself with these events, then one become subject to pain and
pleasure.
The Tantric teachings advises all of its members to perform some kind of sadhana
regularly, to make a pilgrimage one a year to holy place, to see the needs of others, holy
persons and the poor, to invoke the divine energies and directly the mind towards useful
thoughts, thus circumventing the reaction of new burdensome and painful karmas.
In following some or all these spiritual observances, the Tantrika finds emancipation from
the heavy bondage of unseemly karmas. Being disrespectful to guru and parents will produce
heavy bondage of unseemly karmas.
